Blockchain-Based Academic Certificate Verification System
Issues and verifies academic certificates on a blockchain to prevent forgery.
Fake degree and course certificates are a growing problem, and employers have no quick, trustworthy way to check them: they must write to the institution and wait. A blockchain can solve this because a record written there cannot be silently altered. This project builds a system where institutions issue certificates and anyone can verify them instantly.
Only a cryptographic hash of each certificate is stored on the blockchain, never the personal data itself, which protects privacy and keeps costs low. A Solidity smart contract lets an authorised issuer register a certificate hash with its metadata, allows revocation, and lets anyone check whether a given hash exists and is valid. Web3.js connects a web application to the contract: an issuer portal generates the certificate document and its hash, and a public verification portal lets a visitor upload a certificate or scan its QR code and see at once whether it is genuine, who issued it and when. The contract is tested on a local Ethereum network, and the write-up covers gas costs, access control and the limits of the approach.
You will learn smart-contract design, hashing, wallet and network basics and how to connect a web front end to a contract. The Project Reference Guide explains each decision, and the Reference Implementation includes the contract, tests and both portals.
