College Placement Portal with Resume Parsing
A placement portal that parses uploaded resumes and matches students to eligible job postings.
A placement season involves dozens of companies, hundreds of students and strict eligibility rules such as minimum marks, allowed branches and backlog limits. Coordinators usually match candidates by opening resumes one at a time and checking spreadsheets, which is slow and easy to get wrong. This project builds a placement portal that parses resumes and matches students to the postings they are eligible for.
The portal is a Django application on PostgreSQL with three roles: students, companies and administrators. Students build a profile, upload a resume, see only the postings they are eligible for, apply and track their status. Companies post openings with required skills and cut-off criteria, view ranked applicants and schedule interviews. A spaCy pipeline extracts skills, education and projects from resumes, using a curated skills vocabulary so that variants such as "JS" and "JavaScript" match, and a scoring function ranks applicants by how many required skills they have. Eligibility rules are stored as structured fields so that the same rules filter postings for students and applicants for companies. Interview scheduling offers time slots with conflict checks and email notifications. Privacy is protected so that a resume is visible only to companies a student applied to.
You will learn web development with Django, natural language processing for resumes and rule-based filtering. The Project Reference Guide documents the design and evaluation, and the Reference Implementation includes the portal and set-up steps.
