Offline-First Telemedicine Platform with Video Consultation
A telemedicine app that works reliably in low-connectivity areas, with offline patient records and encrypted video consultations.
In rural and low-connectivity regions, a video call with a doctor often fails, and a health app that needs a constant connection is unusable exactly where it is needed most. Health data is also highly sensitive and must be protected. This project builds a telemedicine app that works reliably offline and supports encrypted video consultations.
The mobile app is built with React Native. Patient records are stored in a local database and synchronized with the PostgreSQL server when a connection returns, using queued changes and a conflict-resolution strategy so that edits made on different devices are merged safely. Video consultations use WebRTC with signalling handled by a Node.js service, and the call adapts its quality to poor networks, falling back to audio. The doctor can write an e-prescription, which is generated as a signed document and delivered to the patient's app. Health records are encrypted on the device and in transit, with keys protected so that even the server operator cannot read them. The project also covers consent, access logs and testing under simulated poor network conditions.
You will learn offline-first design, data synchronization, WebRTC and encryption of sensitive data. The Project Reference Guide documents the architecture and security, and the Reference Implementation includes the mobile app, the server and set-up instructions.
