GitOps-Based Continuous Deployment Platform

A GitOps pipeline where every deployment is driven by a Git commit, with automatic drift detection and rollback.

In many teams, deployments are done by hand or through scripts that only some people understand, and the running system slowly drifts away from what anyone thinks is deployed. GitOps solves this by making Git the single source of truth: what is in the repository is what runs. This project builds a GitOps continuous deployment platform with automatic drift detection and rollback.

The infrastructure is described declaratively with Terraform, and application configuration is stored as Kubernetes manifests in a Git repository. GitHub Actions builds and tests each change and publishes a container image, then updates the manifest. ArgoCD watches the repository and continuously synchronizes the cluster to match it, so a deployment is simply a reviewed commit. If someone changes the cluster by hand, drift detection notices, alerts the team and can correct it automatically. Changes are promoted through development, staging and production environments with approvals, and a failed release is rolled back by reverting the commit. The project measures deployment frequency and recovery time, and discusses secrets handling and access control.

You will learn infrastructure as code, Kubernetes deployment, pipeline design and the GitOps workflow. The Project Reference Guide documents the architecture and the reasoning, and the Reference Implementation provides the repositories, pipelines and set-up instructions.
